Join one of our energizing, fun and challenging Cross Training classes with one of our friendly and knowledgeable Cross Training Personal Trainers! All classes will be lead by Lisa Adams: CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.
We keep our classes to 8 or less in order to provide every single attendee with the personalized instruction guidance to ensure a quality class for all fitness levels, ages and interests.
Initially offering memberships for 2-3 classes/week for ONLY $175/month (with some discounts available - see pricing)

I am very proud of our own @oscrosstraining girls… we all competed in the CrossFit Open which is the largest CrossFit competition in the world. This is a HUGE step for our athletes! Competing is stressful! It means putting yourself out there. It means challenging your body outside of your comfort zone. It means having to perform a workout solo and actually video it for someone else to review.
This is our second year competing as a squad (first year for Brit as she’s our group’s newest member).
I’ve been with these girls since the beginning and they had to compete without me for 2 of the 3 workouts which also brings a different vibe and level of uncertainty.
I’m so proud of you guys!!! I always am, but this gives me yet another reason to post about it 😁

Tonight, this group of amazing ladies took on the classic CrossFit benchmark WOD “Fight Gone Bad” and they didn’t back down!!
This workout uses every muscle in your body and gets real sweaty real quick. Did they give up? NOPE!!

Hey everyone! We're making a couple long term changes in our hours here and we wanted you to know about them!!
Staffed hours at @osfitness24 throughout the week will officially be changing to 7am-9pm Mondays-Fridays and still 10am-2pm on Saturdays. (And yes, if course we can still book personal training outside of staffed hours...if you talk real nice to our trainers 😉)
Also, our @oscrosstraining classes are changing to 5pm-6pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays!
We will also be unstaffed on Monday, August 2nd for the Civic holiday...but OF COURSE open 24/7 for all our fantastic members!🎉

This is how we all felt on our first day of a CrossFit class! But it’s NOT the reality. Truth is, everyone works at their own levels and abilities. Even the people who’ve been doing it for a long time still have their struggles and insecurities, but we work through them together! That’s the community aspect of CrossFit that I love. We help each other through the hardships and we celebrate each other’s victories (big or small).
No matter what your mind is telling you, CrossTraining is for you!! You might feel out of place going in, but you’ll know you belong pretty quickly once you start ❤️

She set a new personal record on her deadlift with a whopping 195lbs (exceeding her previous 1RM by 15lbs)!
She has been consistently doing CrossFit style personal training with me at the gym when possible but has continued online with virtual sessions through the last couple of lockdowns.
Although virtual training is definitely NOT our preferred way to train, she’s still rockin’ it and her hard work is paying off!

In the CrossFit world, the hero WOD Murph is traditionally performed on Memorial Day. Today is that day!
Is this workout daunting? Yes.
Did I scale it? You bet.
Did I do better than last year? Sure did!! Time and movement wise 😁
My goal was to finish in under an hour and I came in at 59:02!
Just because a workout looks hard doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it. You scale it so that it is realistic and achievable for your ability and fitness level. You’re capable of more than you think!

Here’s a spicy little workout to try at home! Minimal equipment required and you can substitute with whatever you’ve got!!

Our CrossTraining class completed their final pre-lockdown workout last night. It breaks my heart ♥️
I have watched these girls show up each week and work their butts off! I’ve seen them struggle internally to push beyond the limits they’ve placed on themselves, I’ve seen them smile so big when they do the the things they didn’t think they could do, and I am beyond proud and absolutely inspired by each one of them. Every. Single. Day.
Lockdown might keep us out of the gym for a while, but we’ll be back at it soon enough. The benefits we get from pushing outside of our comfort zone at the gym go far beyond the gym. We not only gain physical strength, we gain confidence, resilience, perseverance, determination, and so much more!
Gyms are a place of growth and are essential to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health!!

Well, we are looking into adding another class time to be able to take on another 4 Cross Training Athletes (we say athletes, but these classes are great for beginners too, we just scale the workouts to an achievable level that you can complete while still challenging yourself!)
We are thinking about making some changes and adding in a new set of 2 Cross Training classes per week which will be available on a monthly basis.
TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS 4:30-5:30pm
$125/month for members
$175/month for non-members (and includes full 24/7 membership to Owen Sound Fitness & Training as well)

Let’s talk BAR PATH...
You may have heard me giving you cues about keeping the bar close to your body during Olympic lifts (squats, cleans, snatches). Small displacements from efficient bar paths in all of the olympic lifts can result in a missed lift. The difference of even an inch when the weight get up there makes all the difference. Imagine a line from where the bar starts, straight up. The bar should not come forward of that line in an ideal lift. Watch for the reduction in the efficiency of a lift when the lifter hip "scoops" the bar away, when the weight comes out and away from the torso forward of that imaginary line.
Notice the difference from the first video to the second. I’m not always aware of my bar path so I take videos every now and then to analyze it. The second video is better! Is it perfect?? Nope. But it’s better. I’m also working on my split jerk stance. Again, not perfect, but it doesn’t get better if you don’t practice!!

Strength focus tonight was on front squats.
Why front squats??
✅ work the legs and save the back and knees
✅ enforce good back squat technique
✅ build the foundation for Olympic lifts (cleans, presses, jerks, snatches)
✅ keep flexibility in check
✅ work the core like crazy
Then finishing with a quick but intense little workout consisting of deadlifts, wall balls and rowing!
4 people is a full class for us. This provides you with a ton of individual feedback and technical cueing, and physical distancing; and you still get the motivation and encouragement of working out in a group!

The 2020 CrossFit Games are currently underway, and the top athletes in the world are doing some INSANE workouts!
Our Cross Training athletes here @osfitness24 have been doing the same workouts that the best of the best have been doing and they are crushing these workouts‼️
How? Because each workout is scaled (modified) by the coach to movements that are challenging, appropriate and achievable for each person. The scaled movements might look different or have a lower weight, however they still keep the intended stimulus for the exercise and are a building block towards the full exercise.
We had a full class here yesterday doing “Awful Annie”! They’ve also done “Friendly Fran” and “Damn Diane”.
2 of our athletes have only been doing Cross Training for 2 months, and the other 2 for only 2 classes!

I am not one to post workout progress pics or personal best photos (it’s just not my thing). But I do once in a while put out posts in hopes of inspiring even one person to get after it.
Today was not my day in the gym. But, I showed up, I put in the work, and I got it done.
About 12 years ago, I decided I needed to lose weight. I started my journey to losing about 80lbs and have kept most of it off (I’ve gained about 10-15lbs of muscle).
How? I show up! I make healthy eating choices (most of the time)! I put in the work even when I don’t want to. Sometimes my best workouts are on the days I don’t want to be there (unfortunately today wasn’t that day, but it’s better than sitting on the couch! 🤷♀️).
Why? Because I know that exercise helps me feel better both physically and mentally, I can better cope with stress, be happier. Because I feel stronger and empowered. Because I want to be able to move and do things when I’m 60, 70, 80, 90. Because I don’t want pain to slow me down!
I came to exercise late (in my thirties). Who cares?? I’m not too old! You’re NEVER too old to start!
You just need to put your mind to it, and PIVOT!

DEADLIFTS‼️
This week has been a BIG week at the gym...
2 of our Cross Training athletes did their heaviest deadlifts during class and 3 of my personal training clients who do CrossFit style training PR’d their deadlifts as well (and not just by a little, by A LOT!).

So this has been a fun week! 😀
I am super proud of all of them! They’ve been putting in the work, grinding through tough (yet achievable) workouts, and only 🙄 while 🤬 minimally 🤪

Today’s crew was a little scared when they first saw this workout on the board...BUT THEY CRUSHED IT‼️💪👊 Everyone (all various ages and stages) was able to successfully complete the workout; scaling movements where necessary to suit their ability! 🏋️♂️ 🔥

Dirty Thirty is a CrossFit benchmark chipper. You do it, you train, you train some more, you train again, then eventually you do the workout again to see how you’ve improved (finishing time, weights used, modifications made,etc.).

Cross Training classes are based on CrossFit methodologies...
Constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements. Let’s break this down.

Constantly varied = different workouts each day to work different muscle groups means your body doesn’t get used to repetitive exercises (less likely to plateau in your training, you won’t get bored, you’ll be ready for anything life throws at you!)
.
High intensity = increase your heart rate, get your muscles firing, improve strength and cardiovascular conditioning in short but intense bursts (boost your metabolism so you keep burning calories long after your workout ends)
.
Functional movements = exercises mimic the things you do in your everyday life (carrying groceries, picking up children, putting something up on the top shelf). Making your daily life a little easier!
